August Press Release- Save the Children Expands Head Start Programs in North Carolina, Following Legacy of Salisbury-Rowan Community Action Agency

SALISBURY, N.C. (August 2, 2019) –Save the Children, which has operated Head Start and Early Head Start programs since 2011, has further expanded operations in North Carolina and will now serve children and families in three additional counties, including Stanly, Montgomery and Moore, the nonprofit announced today. The program will serve 324 children, including 220 children (ages 3 to 5) in the Head Start program and 104 infants and toddlers (birth to age 3) in the Early Head Start program. Services will begin this fall with enrollment commitments to children with special needs, children in foster care and to families experiencing homelessness. Earlier this summer, Save the Children announced it will lead Head Start and Early Head Start programs in Cabarrus County serving 118 children.

July Press Release: Save the Children Expands Head Start Programs in Louisiana, Following 29-Year Legacy of Natchitoches Parish Government

NATCHITOCHES, La. (July 16, 2019) – Save the Children, which has operated Head Start and Early Head Start programs since 2011, has expanded operations in Louisiana and will now serve children and families in three additional parishes, including Natchitoches, Red River and DeSoto, the nonprofit announced today. The program will serve 310 children, including 270 children ages 3 to 5 in the Head Start program. For the first time, Early Head Start services will be offered to 40 infants and toddlers from birth to age 3. Services will begin this fall with enrollment commitments to children with special needs, children in foster care and to families experiencing homelessness.

Save the Children has assumed operations from Natchitoches Parish Government following its 29-year legacy administering high-quality Head Start services in both in Natchitoches and DeSoto Parishes. “We are pleased to see early education opportunities continue with expanded services for our families,” said Sharon Harris, Executive Director of the Office of Community Services for Natchitoches Parish Government.

“Save the Children is grateful for the opportunity to expand its Head Start programs in Louisiana and excited to introduce center-based Early Head Start services for infants and toddlers for the first time in these three parishes,” said Khari Garvin, Save the Children’s Executive Director of Head Start. “We look forward to building on Natchitoches Parish Government’s history of serving young children and their families for the last three decades.”

  1. That is wonderful! Hoping we can increase our numbers as well. We have a very limited amount of children that get to attend head start or preschool programs. The ones attending go for a half a day and then when they reach kindergarten, it is full time. With every thing the children need to learn according to standards, I have often wondered how they learned every thing going half days.
